Emmanuel Macron is making a surprise visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, this Saturday, alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz , British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The leaders of France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Poland responded to a call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky .
Following a show of Russian diplomatic force during the May 9 celebrations , this visit is intended primarily as a symbolic response and is part of the effort to increase pressure on Vladimir Putin . Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, Keir Starmer and Donald Tusk are also calling, along with the United States, for a 30-day "complete ceasefire" in Moscow.
